I've seen EM1 and EK4/9 throughout various honda civic forums. whats the difference with this? any help would be greatly appreciated so i can have a better understanding.
Mostly just body parts. The whole front end of the EM1 is new, and the taillights are different. Those are the visible differences, or were you looking for something more?
something a little more in depth cause the only difference i really notice is just the hatch, coupe, and 4 door. how do you consider which is the EM1, or EK 4/9? i have a coupe, so which one is it suppose to be? im assuming an EK.

The EK4 and EK9 are from 1996 to 2000. The EM1 is from 1999 to 2000. An EK4 is all three and four door Civics from Japan with a B16A from the factory. The EK9 is a JDM Civic Type-R (Three door) with a B16A from the factory. The EM1 is either a door door SiR from Canada with a B16A2 from the factory or a factory B16A2 powered two door Civic Si in the US.
So in short people who call their US Civic an EK are wrong. It will either be an EJ or an EM. Just as people call the 1992 to 1995 Civic coupes and hatches EGs. The coupe is an EJ and the hatch is an EH.

Let me pick your brain on this one... what's the difference between a '00 ej8 usdm and a '00 em1 usdm? Excluding the obvious... interior, window tint, front upper grille, front lip, and of course engine?

What your basically asking is what's the difference between a 00 Civic EX and a 00 Civic Si.. so you should be able to compare them. EX is SOHC while the Si is DOHC, and etc.
