I think I was around 22 mins. My 5K PR is 19:26.

i have a 5miler scheduled for today but i'm going to revamp my running program.

this nike+ program's initiative is for you to get comfortable running a set distance but it doesn't focus too much on increasing your distance throughout the program.

i might go back to the format of doing a/a/b for my runs to build up my mileage again

Wow that's quick. My friend finished 90/3000 with a 27 min pace last year. I don't know that I'm that fast. We'll see.

Took the last two days off after my half....the legs were definitely feeling the effort on monday and tuesday. Probably take today off as well...I deserve it, lol.

I have ridden my bike every day since though, and added some more weight to the equation as well. The wife was "inspecting" my new muscles last night. \:D

Another thing to remember is all the courses are different and slightly different distances.

I finished 296/7671 and the winner was 17:39 (I think he cheated)

My 5k pr is 22 min and change. My warrior dash i did in Hollister in Oct was 30 min and change after a late night that involved some drinking. Sub 30 shouldn't be an issue based on your 5k I'll be doing another one here in AZ in April. It's hard to have a specific goal because like Vogz said all the courses are different but sub 30 would make me happy.

26.2, done.
So I wasnt sure what to expect as the last couple of weeks I had been nursing some weird tightness behind my left knee.
Fortunately it happened around when I was supposed to taper anyway so I laid super low during my taper.
It ended up feeling pretty good during the race, not perfect but not enough to really bring me down.
I had my left hip tighten up on me around mile 12 though, that was weird, never had hip problems before but I just ran through it and worked it out after a couple miles.
Ended up at 3:38, wanted to get closer to 3:30 but still happy.
Met some cool people during the run and overall had a really good time, other than the last 4 miles which were pure fucking hell.

Nice job man....that's a solid freaking time. What race was it...and how was the course?

Just signed the wife and I up for Rock n Roll San Diego. I'll be pacing her to hopefully a 3:34 to get her into Boston next year. Not our first choice of races, but the only one that would work with our schedule.

Good job that’s a great time. I keep hearing the marathon does not really start until mile 20.

Mr.Mom you might want to aim 2 minutes under since they now cap entries and do it by fastest time. I think 2012 you had to be 1:14 under your qualifying time to get a spot. That was with the old times so the new times you may not have to be under by as much if it all but you won't know until after registration is closed. You may have already known all this.

It was Modesto, very flat course.
I paced a girl that was trying for boston for miles 14-20, at that point we were running 8:10 pace so she was on pace for it, she dropped back at about 20 though and ended up finishing at 3:47.
The last 2 miles I was running with a guy who started out with the 3:10 pace group for the first 18 miles and then cramped up, crazy shit can happen.

Oh yeah, we know. Her base qualifying time is a 3:40 so we're looking to give her a solid cushion with a 3:36 goal. She ran a 3:50 in December on very minimal training. She's lighter, more fit, and just ran a 1:42 half last week.

I honestly don't expect either of us to have too much trouble with it. :knockonwood:

I'm sorry I thought she was in the 3:35 group. With a 1:42 half she should not have much trouble if race day goes well.

This thread is still making me feel very slow. 18 miler this weekend should be fun.

Yeah, she'll be 35 in December so it bumps her up to the next AG for Boston next year.

I'm just happy to be running with her. Where I'm much better when training/racing by myself, she much prefers to have a partner.

Plus, the timing is perfect for me as IM Louisville is 2 months later.

Alright, motivate me guys.
Lately it's been 50 degrees, but rainy and windy every fucking day. I've not ran more than about 8k since in a go in 9 months. But I did manage a 22min 5k in September(pretty good by me). I've been lifting weights and hiking, so I'm far from shit shape, but I'm really struggling to get out and run. I'm almost 4 years off my last 1/2 marathon, 3 since my really training(I ended up not running that one due to a move).

Ugh, I just hate running with the rain and 30-60 mph winds we've been having.
I'm jealous of all the shit you guys are doing, but I can't seem to get back into my running groove...

Does anybody have any recommendation on removing a callus that has formed on the ball of my foot? Over the last week it has been starting to hurt more and I would like to try and fix it by this weekend’s run so I don’t have to miss it.

I despise the wind. IMO nothing more demoralizing. Under your circumstances Id probably just do half my runs outside, and the other half on a treadmill.

oh, and sign up for a race to boost your motivation. Read Born to Run, watch Pre, etc.

So it's been 80+ here the last few days and I haven't run in temps like that since last August or something. Hurting my pace big time (like 30sec/mile on average). Shouldn't be 80s around here until June. WTF?

I got in my first run tonight since my marathon.
Decided to mix it up and did a set of burpees, push up rows and flutter kicks and then did a .8 mile run, doing that 3 times.
Felt great and averaged 6:45 for my runs even though I felt like I was going pretty easy.

Have any of you avid runners battled shin splints? What are your remedies? According to the wear on my shoes I have a good foot strike. I'm rolling through the sole and off my toes.

Went for a run today and by the first 1/2 mile my shins were aching something wicked. Slow warm up pace too \:\(

My shin splints went away with rest, stretching and more running. Just let it rest 1-2 days, then go running and they should go away after a couple weeks.

First race of the year is on the books. I ran the Fool's Run 25k this morning. It was a pretty rough trail run through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. I finished a little better than I expected, I was hoping for 2:30 and came in at 2:14:xx. Which was good for 9th overall. I'm not sure how they do AG brackets for trail runs. Overall it was a great race with alot of challenging hills(some brought me to a walk).

So have I, they didn't t go away until I became a regular runner. If I just ran intermittently, they would always occur.

Thanks man. I'm hoping that my lower legs simply aren't in running shape yet and that's why their aching. I haven't run ~ 8 months due to my ACL surgery and complications. I have a 5k next month and a 10 mile run in September, so I'm hoping to be ready by then.

I would try, recover, try, recover. Ideally, you go from needing 3-4 days off to 2-3 days off to 1-2 days off before running again.

Ive never been a runner. I went and got some Brooks running shoes this weekend. Today I ran my first mile in 11:38. It wasnt as painful as I thought. Ive been doing the eliptical, for about three weeks and running is a different animal. What is more effective? Running a mile or doing 45 mins of eliptical at a pace of about 150 strides a min?
