I'm using this trick I read about to increase contrast without throwing away any information by opening two adjustment layers (curves) above each layer - but not adjusting the curves; instead you set one layer to screen (which lightens the shadows) and the other to multiply (which darkens the highlights) and then adjust the opacity of each to achieve the contrast you want. But I feel like I'm spending a lot of time just to create still flat images. Theoretically though, it should allow for much more detail in the shadows and near whites than my traditional use of the brightness/contrast sliders (which most people swear are evil).

All I know is that's a flat image, but for giggles I played with the contrast slider on a jpeg without improving it even slightly, so maybe it needs to be.

I think I'm getting more comfortable with this. I'm now putting the screen adj. layer above the multiply layer, much easier to control. Started doing the hue/saturation via adj. layers as well.

Yep, that is Trajan's Column with one of the domes of Santa Maria di Loreto shot from the top of Il Vittoriano.

Harper's Ferry yesterday... Sky was shitty but hey what can you do? Great views though and the overcast made it much cooler to hike \:\)



on a side note i had borrow my friend's Tokina 11-16 2.8 and was able to put it to use here. While i loved using the lens i think I'll be buying the Canon 10-22 for the greater zoom range.

This is close enough to monochrome that I'd go complete B&W with this one and then maybe split tone it. A little more vignette wouldn't hurt either. *ducks*

I typically order what we call "scatter" from our color correcting house, which comes to me as a printed full size/full resolution proof to check color, sharpness, etc... So yea my walls are covered with "rough drafts" lol. ;\)
