Anyone still riding? We had an awesome week here, warmed up to >70 everyday, but it looks like it is all downhill now with mid 50's. Also doesn't help that it is almost dark by 6:30. Not looking forward to trainer rides after work. Anyone hit time/distance/elevation goals for the year? I tried for 100km elevation gain, lol not even close.

Nice. I'm right behind you time wise at 315hrs, had to take 2 weeks off recently because of some knee problems. Distance wise I'm at 4820 miles but a lousy 235,680ft, all of that on a mountain bike though. Contemplating a road bike for next year to put in more miles. Also jealous of moab, post pics when you get back.

2400 is pretty good since you run/swim. Time to ditch the runners and speedo though and go all fred all the time!

nah, I'm pretty happy being mediocre in everything

I just looked: [YTD]
115h biked
109h run
65h swam

not too different I guess. Missed more swim workouts than I thought lol normally its tied to slightly lower than the other two], and I normally tilt higher on the run as its my weakness but I've had to take a couple months off with an injury when I was trying to improve on said weakness so my #'s are down lol irony

Somehow I'm barely up on 2015 despite a century/training(barely).

And more importantly 100 miles behind stickaz

Does stickaz 200 miles of video game cycling really count?

I want to say no since he lives in California and can probably ride outdoors year round, but since riding indoors is not nearly as enjoyable as riding outdoors it gets a pass.

-130.6 miles but who's counting

I think I have a pretty high trainer mileage count but havent done it in a while. I bet I'm close to 700 miles [just checked: yep!] some of that is last year but I bet 600 is this year lol

post hip injury I have backed off of everything tho

This could get interesting. dirty vs stickaz in a race for the best YTD mileage.
No rules, anything goes, except taking gps for a ride in the car.

I just got home from work, so congested and can't stop blowing my nose but I still feel like riding. Currently 52 but "feels like 46". Glass of gin and couch sounds pretty tempting. I bet this is the moment it starts going downhill for me.

I just looked us up on strava
last 4 weeks

stickaz 65mi/week
swirls 25mi/week

Basically I was probably in the lead until I wore myself out around labor day.

On running it's teh opposite, but I'll never catch up as he trained for a full.
But of course I have more vertical in 4-5 weeks than he has in the year.

80° in the mountains of Colorado and near freezing here, wtf.

I ended up going out and smashing 46km and 1350', windy as hell but made for some good wind assisted KOM attempts.
Sinuses were so clear while riding, as soon as I get inside, clogged.

went on a fast group ride this morning. got popped off on the first roller 40 min in since they wanted to blast up it at 30mph. chased for a few miles then did my own thing. lots of rollers and wind in the open fields suuuuucked. had 6 miles to ride start and 6 back, so 72 on the day

lol i think it's funny that you get dropped, can't imagine how fast the guys you ride with must actually be.
72mi is a big ride, no way I can pull that off with this weather we're having, too windy and cold, much easier to get out everyday for 1-2 hour spins.

yeah there are a LOT more fast guys out here than back in PA. my problem is still hills, i can ride them high tempo or a bit faster but in races where guys blow up them, my HR goes through the roof. prob just lack of training and the altitude yet.

another 70 today,200 for the week

I finished the week at 213 miles but only 5000', much less than you I'm sure. You ride a road bike and ride in a group so that's like cheating in my book lol. We will just call it even for my lack of elevation.

Nice, when do you find out if you've made the cut? Is it just for road racing or do they do mountain as well?

i already know I made it. just gotta go through the process. its a road team, the best in denver. swept best team for elite, cat3,4 and 5 the past 3 years. lot of good guys and a large team, 50+ members. teams actually use team tactics here so itll be a good team to get on!

So I might be pulling the trigger on a road bike, not sure what has come over me.
It's been at least 7-8 years since i've been on a road bike outdoors. I have an old ass norco I bought for cheap many years ago but quit riding it outdoors and it has been for trainer use ever since.
Was in the bike shop yesterday and he has a 2015 specialized tarmac expert he is willing to part with for cheap, so torn, not sure how much I would actually end up using it.

Can I put more aggressive tires on something like a tarmac to ride on gravel?

probably wont fit over 25's on a tarmac ,due to clearance issues. if you want more aggressive/larger tires, id get a cross bike and get a beater set of wheels with some file treads for gravel.

I really like the tarmac for a road bike. But that's what it is.

But if you're in a specialized shop look at the roubaix or diverge if you're looking more mixed purpose.

I nearly went with a Tarmac or domane when. I decided my shame required an aluminum bike and went with a caad

I went into the shop again today to look at the tarmac and got sidetracked by the diverge. Diverge won't be as discounted since it would be a 2017. So torn right now, I like to think i'd want the gravel grinder but isn't that what the mtb is for? How much difference in speed/geometry can there really be between the tarmac and diverge? To my untrained eye it looks like the only difference is slightly wider wheels and disc brakes. But the 2017 sworks venge has disc brakes so doubt the brakes are any sort of issue when it comes to going fast. So many restless nights ahead.

I dunno I need(ed) every watt I could get at my dollar so I went with the raciest roadbike frame that my level of severe hip inflexibility would tolerate more or less. Like I didn't want to sacrifice :05s in a time trial

if it isnt being raced in competition I'm all for relaxed/comfort fit

I've got 2,500 on dirverge
I road a tarmac (or sora, wtf) in ireland

Huge differences. Diverge is a touring bike mostly. Hell most gravel grinders are. Longer rear stays, lower head angle all makes is more sedate handling. The gravel grinder just means a tourer with a little more BB height, wider rims and tire clearance.

7mm more of tire makes it more comfortable, able to go offroad, and again less knife edge responsive. That means for both side-to-side, but also when you stand up.

My impression is 23mms really direct your power to the ground, 30mm have so much air volume, height, and weight(espeically the stock tires). I dropped to lighter weight 28m all seasons and even that helped.

That said, the clearance on a tarmac is 23mm or 25mm. A diverge(depending on which one) goes upto 35mm? 40mm?? I mean that's 1.5". You can cover some very interesting ground on that sort of width. But with a smaller rim you could drop down to 25mms. (the frame angles will still be a factor of course)

That tire width is a big factor. IME

Wieght is another. Most diverges come with braze ones for racks, fenders, ets. Longer overall length, etc

/says the guy who's been road bike for <3 years

ugh i'm so torn.

Just noticed the drivetrains are different as well

Tarmac 52/36 with 11/28 cassette
Diverge 48/32 with 11/32 cassette

I don't want mtb gearing on the diverge. This is swaying me back to the tarmac but bothers me I cant ride the gravel trails we have out here.
