Just got done playing 2 hours of hardcore basketball. Id say all in all I ran 4-5 miles today. It was such a good feeling because I finally felt like I wasn't winded or completely dead during the games. Running has helped me out so much!

basketball is great for your run times, its basically doing sprints back and forth

No kidding. The first game was a bit mellow, but towards the end it got very intense. The second game was with the black guys who are RUNNERS and dang, I got worn out but tried to play with them.

Have you tried biking or something? That can help you train, but keep you from making the injury worse while it heals.

i ran outside for the first time today and the first time running since decemeber. my back always hurt running on a treadmill, but running outside was great no pain.
i ran with the girlfriend and her friend. Her friend lasted 2min gave up and went home lol, i lasted 10-11minutes before i had to walk, and told her to loop around and catch me on the way back lol. Then ran 5-6 more minutes on the way back.
she is doing a 10k on sunday, thank god i didn't open my big dumb mouth and offer to do that with her haha.

Fatass running since beginning of last week. Gay.

I picked up some new Nike's and the Nike+ kit as incentive to lose some lbs. Started listening to their training program, that lasted 3 days. Now i just go how i feel. Lots of run/walk/run/walk stuff. I ran/walked 5kms in 32 minutes on thursday. I didn't go friday or saturday, went tonight but kept it short since the weather was shit and it was 10pm. 2kms in 12 minutes. I'm running more than walking, which is good.

The bad, my back fucking hurts like hell. I have the enjoyment of having a pair of compressed vertibre up just below my should blades. Who'd of thought running would aggrivate it this much? I'm going to try and push through it and see what happens.

Anyways, just thought i'd Chime in. Anyone else running with the Nike+. We should start a Team. Some motivation for us fatter folk.

If you back hurts like hell, STOP dude. I made that mistake of pushing through and my back hurt for months.
I didn;t go to the doctor but i probably should have, luckily everything is fine now, but i really should have just stopped.

Finally got back out on the road this morning after taking about 2 weeks off. I ran about 3.5 miles in a 7:43/mile pace. I have been running nothing but hills since I moved back in with my parents, but I am moving into a new apartment this weekend with nothing but flat streets around. I would expect to see a drop in my pace in the next few weeks since I wont have to run hills anymore.

26 days till my last 5k for the year and 41 till my half marathon. I am finished for the season after that, swimming until about April

Ran 2.3 last night and felt ok. I didnt eat a lot during the day, or drink my needed water, so I was dragging a bit and ended up walking a fair amount. Overall though, it was nice to be back out on the road. I kept my strides shorter and my hamstring felt alright because of it. Today I think Im gonna go on a bike ride...

Quick cardio and heart rate question.

fat loss is my main goal. Im not training to run a marathon or anything. Should i just be busting my ass on the treadmill at the fastest pace i can handle or should i be more worried about heart rate? i always hear about the "fat burn zone" and "cardio zone" based on percentage of heart rate. does this hold water or should i be working harder to burn more calories??

Ever see a fat sprinter? Cardio zone works for fat burning too. I prefer to keep indoor workouts short so I'd go faster. Just my opinion.

Non related... I ran 16 miles straight Saturday and did 13.1 miles of it in 1 hour 54 minutes (goal is 1h45m). I have my first half marathon October 18th and have been preparing since the spring. I run 5 miles 3 or 4 times a week plus a long run on Saturdays. I'm peaking at 16 then should probably taper off in the next few weeks.

did another run tonight
did
5min run, 1min walk x 4
but i only made it to 4min on the last one. Was going to pack it in at the 3min mark, but managed to squeeze out another minute.

it;s odd, i can run outside with no back pain, but put me on a treadmill and my back hurts within 30s of running?????

Ran 1 mile non-stop yesterday in 8:27 and then walked 1/5 mile. I then ran a 1/5 as fast as I could (45 1:25) and walked a 1/10th x 5 for a total of two miles done running and then walked 3/10ths for cool down and stretched/situps/pushups for 25 minutes. \:\)

-Matt
btw, I absolutely LOATHE 1/10th mile tracks.

It's a big improvement for me, that's for dang sure. Considering my first run ever back in the beginning of July was 11 minutes for .9 mile or so. 3 minutes in 3 months for such a short distance is good progress. Now my goal is to be able to run a 5k in under 30 (which I dont think is attainable for Oct 11th quite yet. I am however signed up for another 5k on November 16th, so that will give me AMPLE time to get my times down. Dare I say sub 28 minute mark by then? Wish you were closer, I could stand a good coach/motivator.

Dude, if you're busting out mid 8 miles, you should be able to do a 30 minute 5k. Just . . . don't slow down \:\)

I wish I had anyone on CSi near me that I could work out with. I mean, I enjoy going to the gym with my wife, but it just ain't the same as a real workout partner.

Well, I can bust out a mid 8-minute mile...once. I suppose if I did that and then walked for a hair over a minute and tried to do another mile I could make a sub-30. Just move to TN, you know Kansas is too boring anyways... ;\)

I made the "mistake" of running with my much more in shape boss today. LOL It was a slow day today for him so I told him I wanted to go 13.1 in 1h 45m and let him set the pace. I crapped out in the middle but still managed 1h 49m and then a much slower pace to round out the 16 in 2h 20m. I think I might be able to pull off 1h 45m by the time my half comes around woot! I promise you guys I'm nothing special when it comes to cardio I have just kept at it. Set goals, run races and try to get a running buddy. Makes it much easier.

I've finally found time to run with the move and new job thing. Last night I ran 4 miles at a 7:25 pace. I was really happy with that. Hopefully on the 18th I can hit about 6:xx pace for my 5k.
