A nice lovely view of an OC mall. lol. I mainly was trying to get a picture of the colorful sunset, and the top of CHOC parking garage was the closest thing to my house that allowed me to do this.

Catalina Island is the hill on the left and Rancho Palos Verdes is the hill on the right and the 22 freeway centered.

It's Trail Ridge Road, in Rocky Mountain National Park. I've got the season pass and have been up there at least 5 times in the past 2 months. That was two mornings ago...it was windy as hell and in the 30s...so funny to see the Harley riders wearing t-shirts go up the hill. As if they have no idea what it's like up at 12000'.

My first new photo in quite some time. It wasn't the shot I was looking for - foiled by clouds low on the horizon at sunset - but it was fun shooting and editing something again. A couple weeks after I shot this I went up to the same ridge with my aunt to watch the sunset. We're both looking towards the west when I hear some rustling in the bushes. Figuring it's a rabbit I don't think much of it, but the rustling sound continues to get louder until I'm wondering "how and why in the hell is a dog climbing up a grade this steep? Surely their owner isn't coming up that way...". As I'm pondering the climbing capabilities of canines a huge dog comes leaping, literally leaping, out of the brush not 8' from me and my aunt. Only it's not a dog, it's a black bear cub!

I get out a low "ohhh shiiit" before grabbing my aunt and walking away. Once we were 100' away I got my courage back and started looking for the cub (and it's mother) but we never saw them again. Very cool stuff but it makes me glad this isn't grizzly country

Welcome back to the photo forum, brah. Also, to the other side of my state.

yep, it's hard to dress for a ride in the mountains.. the valley is 95-100, up at altitude, it's in the 50's (cold for me on a bike). you're either hot or cold, or stopping to de(re) layer.

this was from the other day, dry as a bone down low.. storm had just passed through up top.

It was an honor and a privilege to be part of one of my closest friends' grandfathers' burial at Arlington National Cemetery today. He was a glider pilot who took part in the invasion of Normandy on D-Day. Hearing about his history from my friends father was awe inspiring. A living history, right there.

yeah, the road was fun. i'm such a pussy anymore on the street after spending so much time on the track. like 7 years ago when i started riding i was balls to the wall on the street. i have a feeling at some point this is going to end up a track bike only. too many thoughts of deer/cars/cyclists/gravel/etc on the roads.

I haven't been to Utah yet but I've always thought of it as a Colorado with socially conservative laws and watered down beer. Some of the most beautiful country in the world, to be sure, but I'm wondering what it'd be like to live there. What do you think?

Sorry, I really don't mean to bash your state but I'm genuinely curious. I've talked to a few people, middle aged couples, who moved to Utah and loved it at first but after ~5 years or so still didn't really feel accepted there (on account of them not being Mormons). Maybe they were being hyper sensitive but it raises questions in my mind.

ehh, it's different in some aspects for sure. the last i heard the non-mormons outnumbered the mormons. we have state liquor stores where you can get just about anything you want, and some pretty decent microbrews. the thing i like about salt lake over colorado is the population hasn't exploded yet. you can actually go to the parks and outdoor spaces and have it not be super crowded. speaking of the mountains, i can be at like 7 ski resorts in 20-45 minutes... only that long cause i bought my house on the wrong side of town. i'm like 5-6 hours from vegas, jackson hole, and 3-4 hours to Moab, zion, bryce.... could be worse.

and to keep it on topic, i think my last one was yesterday. headed up to Park City.

I can see that the Front Range is becoming a popular place. I live way up north of Denver, well out of the suburbs range, and even it seems to be growing. Park and Rides are being expanded, and I think they're building the light rail as far out as me, which, I'm mixed on. I will say, it's not that crowded at all, though, after spending 37 years in the DC area. Even during a business day, downtown Denver seems "slow paced" to me...I dunno.

The videographer I work with used to work/live in SLC...he liked it for the most part, but did feel "excluded" from time to time by Mormons. This area I'm in now, however, feels extra-Christiany to me, compared to DC. I'm still getting used to the fact that all of my neighbors go to church on a Sunday morning....so quiet in my neighborhood, lol.

NY has been having that effect on me as well w/ the amount of people and businesses here. it's really nice to escape the city every once in awhile for some peace and quiet. love visiting Utah/CO though.

A very well composed shot; however, I think it may work better in B&W conversion. I know you exposed for the sky, which you did nicely, but the underexposed lake bed and tracks are battling for attention. There are not too many colors fighting for attention, so I think the B&W would be great, so you can brighten up the lake bed more.
