ISO like whoa. I never use more then ISO3200. Might try 6400 the next time around but I think most of my star pics turn out ok.

yeah, Royce is local to me. he's the one who's picture i linked above over delicate arch. he's got some amazing stuff.
Bill I've only ever used high iso like that shooting the night bike race. A little bit of light from around the course, no moon light from the rain/cloud cover. Super grainy. In the article he mentions using the Rokinon 1.4 UWA's as it can take the iso down with the extra stop offered. Will be interesting to see how it all works out when I finally make it out to the desert. Was trying to get a trip to Joshua Tree or Death Valley going with a buddy before it gets too hot but we're swamped through June. Not gonna work! Might be able to do a mid summer Yosemite trip though....but really want to do that in the winter. we'll see
Shot a self shot for p52 last night. Not going to submit it, not happy with it. Einstein modeling lamp turned up all the way in a 40" softlighter at counter height on the left, 35 1.8 on the crop body. A little tighter then I'd have liked, would have preferred a 35 on a full frame and then crop it a bit in post. Dangled the remote down and shot bursts with my toe. Assignment is to get creative and shoot something that's the essence of yourself, but not to shoot your face at all. I've got some ideas but need to either find my motorcycle key, or clean my garage out. Tough choice.

thanks, i like the shot, just not for the assignment. I asked a buddy to look at it that's been working the projects also and knows where i want to be and stuff and he understood it but thought because he knew me pretty well that he was able to filter out other ideas that people more creative than myself put into self portraits. like washing yourself clean, a fresh start, bullshit bullshit bullshit. I just wanted to show that I get my hands dirty working on stuff. So, I'm going to reshoot it tomorrow with a table saw and see how that turns out.

the replacement shot. there was another I really really liked, right at the end of the cut, but I'd prefocused at the beginning of the cut, so my hands were out of focus. It didn't bother me at first, i didn't even notice, but I was too close to it. Someone pointed it out and I chose this to submit.

oh i wasn't leaning over it, i was pretty far back. figured out during pre-cut test shots that it look best if i stand further back, lean forward...my shoulders are well behind the table. my wife would have had to jump kicked me with a running start from behind. waiiiit a minute

Gotta be nice seeing your name in print! One of the things we're working on in p52 right now is specifying magazines that need our work. Listing about 5 that could actually use our style and content, then researching the masthead, and learning everything we can about everyone involved that could pull the trigger on our material.
This was my submission for the "Heroes" assignment. Had to shoot for the layout provided. The guy on the right is the son of my little league coach
