shot in AV mode since it was dusky lol /serious business)
Unless you're shooting action and need to focus on the shutter speed, you should almost always be in aperture priority mode.

] More Mountain West grandeur I like...can you link the original or explain how you did it? Not a simple B&W obviously...
Thanks!
I just played with it (lol) until I got the result here. Added a custom B&W layer in Photoshop and tinkered with the sliders. Then did more things in Lightroom...it's really hard to say exactly how it came out this way.

Cropped Moon by ewraven, on Flickr
This Moon picture was with the NEX-3 in RAW at 210mm with the 55-210 F4.5-6.3 Lens. I'd love a good 2x Teleconverter but all I can find are the cheapo Chinese screw on the end of the lens type. Not the E-mount ones specifically for my camera. So far anyway.
Believe it or not, this is one of the better Moon photos I have gotten. lol I never really got any decent Moon Pictures with the K20d, not that it was the fault of the camera just me not knowing what I was doing.
The UPS guy will be delivering Lightroom 3 tomorrow. I'll see what I can do with the above picture when I get it installed within the next couple of days.

Thanks guys. I really wish I had a 2x converter for the moon. 800mm FTW!!! I also want to try and use a CP for a moon shot and see if it ups some contrast in areas... But I always forget it - lol.
I guess when I converted it over to jpg the sharpening gave it a weird texture as the raw is a little cleaner then that...
I really like metalheads color on his moon shot - gives it a great feel.

Do it! You just can't take the 7D it's attached to.
Hopefully by then I'll have a 70-200 2.8 IS II...

This camera is pretty impressive for what it is. This is actually a HUGE leaf, like, probably 3 square feet so not so much macro. here is the color version...

My new Canon 70-200mm f4 with a 2x teleconverter, cropped a good bit. I wish I had my dads telescope. I bought an adapter ring for my XT to connect it, but every time I was at the beach, it was a new moon or it was overcast. With the telescope, it was effetively a 1500mm lens at f/32, or something like that. The problem with that is at f/32, you have to do a really long exposure and the moon moves too fast for that. It'll just end up blurry.
Yeah, I know, that's the hard part. Since I don't have a motorized mount to put the thing on it'll show movement. I did take a few practice shots with it against the neighbors doorstep light, and it showed up, although kinda dim. I'm hoping a brighter moon would show up better. i guess I'll have to wait until next summer to try it.
Oh, and the other thing is that you're going completely blind when you're shooting with the scope because there is no feedback on the built in light meter or anything, so you're manually adjusting the shutter speed and ISO with a fixed appeture.

Lightroom 3 arrived yesterday. I took that Moon picture from above and did what I could to it. I found LR3 to be easier to use than I thought it would be. Having used Paint Shop Pro X2 and X3 in the past, I can see why Adobe owns the market with LR3 and Photoshop.
What do you think?
