Rule of thirds.. You don't want it centered.

It was some other random blue sky day. Whenever I am out ill try to pull a shot or two if they sky looks interesting. I have a small catalog of skies from different conditions, different times of day, different clouds etc that I can swap into other images. Just gotta remember to pay attention to sun positioning and light direction so there's no cross shadows or impossible lighting.

So in the original picture, the sky was blown out and boring. It was a hazy overcast day and the shooter (not me) exposed for the trains to preserve the detail there.
In Photoshop, I opened the original file with the blown out sky and did the edits to get the ground and trains where I wanted it. I then added a picture I had of a nice blue sky with a more interesting cloud pattern. I converted the sky photo to a smart object, then did a "file-->place embedded" over top of the original pic. I used the transform controls to stretch the sky to fill to the top corners of the original pic, reducing the transparency of the sky layer temporarily so I could see the alignment over the train layer. Once the sky file was positioned and placed, I added a mask and brushed the sky layer off the trains/foreground and adjusted the opacity of the sky layer so that it looked natural with the lighting of the rest of the scene.
This was my first stab at doing something like this and I think I got off easy since the original sky was pretty much uniform in color and with no clouds.
Hope that helps...
