Speaking of not focusing. I went to a birding area here on the coast today. Out of 40 pictures taken, the following crop is all I got that is of any use. I attempted to manual focus all day with my 50-200mm zoom lens. lol big mistake. I also didn't see too much wildlife.
I did do everything in manual mode though.

It's a good shot, but that tongue is freaking me out. And he's got kind of a troll face going on. 
ok, I'm going to post the best trollface dog I shot today. My boxer's playdate boxer friend, also at the dog park. brb
beautiful bird shot...I actually took my camera in hopes of catching a woodpecker I see there everyday. Want to join the ranks of you birding guys.

The tree works, but the option to not have it is a lot better. I've done the same thing a few times.
This is almost a 100% crop of the bird getting bitched out above. He came back when the sparrows left.

Anyone remember Finding Nemo? My pops was feeding these guys bread as I stood about fifteen feet away taking pictures. They damn near hover in the air and take the bread right out of the hand.

I like the overall balance of color of 1 better as the light in #2 draws my attention over anything but I like the blacks (especially the bushes) better in 2.
As to the arch, I like it both ways. I like the composition of 2 better honestly with the cutoff arch.
If you could cut back the light intensity some in #2 it would be the overwhelming winner IMO but since the light just draws my attention so much I'm giving it the slight favorite.
Both a cool shots though.
