worst fucking run ever.

set out to do 10m today. wheels came off after 5. walked a total of a half mile over six stops on the last 5 miles. Felt the resurgence of an old left calf injury on mile 9.

FUCK that was really really shitty.

Got home, very cold, soaked through from sweat. left hammie locked up when I tried getting off the floor.

Sat in an ice bath for 10 minutes, stretched, drank pickle juice (supposed to help).

going to take a hot bath with epsom salts in a few, then stretch.

FUCK ME IN THE EYE SOCKET!

half marathon is next Sunday. God damn you running gods. why couldn't you have just given me a nice last long run before the race? WHY!?!??!?!?

oh, stats - finished 9.4 miles in 1:23:39, 8:50 avg pace when running. Including the stops it took me 1:35:20 for an average of 10:08/m

3.1 on the treadmill, 25:06

i hate 'em, but it's nice to know they are available when it's <50* out with 33mph winds

43 degrees, raining. 3.6 miles, in 36 minutes. Not the most awesome weather, but I ain' gonna melt from a little water.

First time i've run consistent 10min splits across the whole run! usually it's high 10s, low 11s, maybe a high nine.

but this... this i'm happy with. That'd have been what, a 32:00 5k time? My last official 5k was in the 35s.

Ran with the runkeeper app on my phone today. I figured since most days I push the baby in the jogger, and have it with me, it'd be cool to have.

Today I did 3.5 at a 8:50 pace. About average when I'm pushing that bastard of a stroller.

I'm taking about a week off from running due to my knee feeling funny. And my diet has sucked for about a month and a half - gained three or four pounds back. Need to get myself back on track.

Got two cross races this weekend to help, and it looks like we will have some mud

doing one last very easy run today before the half on Sunday. I'm starting to notice all the weird stains and tightness that I normally inventory before a race. It's like two days before the event I become some sort of hypochondriac...

today should be 4 miles at a s-l-o-w pace, trying to target a 9:30/m pace, about a mile slower than what I want to do on Sunday.

how do you train your body to run a slower pace than normal without burning yourself out or hurting yourself?

running a 7miler this evening

duh but i mean that while trying to run at a slow pace, my body does one of three things:

1. i unconciously speed back up to the pace that my body is used to running comfortably at

2. knees and shins start hurting

3. i burnout quicker

for real? I think you're broken.

Besides, 1min/mile slower isn't all that slower in reality, especially when you average it out.

the easiest way for me to run slower is to lengthen my stride and slow my leg turn over but keep my form the same. That's the hard part, is keeping form.

I dunno, I just treat it like a jog instead of a run and it works out

3.37 miles, 27:55 finish. avg 8:17/m pace

I'm gonna just take this one easy I think. Not gonna shoot for a PR. the training between the last half in early October and this one hasn't been all that great, and with the really shitty 10miler and cramping I had last Sunday I don't know what this Sunday is going to end up like.

My strategy is to go easy for the first 5 and see how I feel, then reassess for the last 8.

I'm playing my tiny violin right now for ya. \:D J/K....who knows, maybe the lighter training load will be good for your race.

Had a pretty good run today. Used runkeeper again and it says I did 4 miles in 33:28...8:23/mi. Again, I can't believe how my speed has increased over the last few months...if I wasn't pushing that stroller I'd be sub 8's for sure. Hopefully I'll get a solo long run in this weekend.

Finally got back on the tri bike today after not touching it for almost 6 weeks. Did 26 miles in beautiful weather. Only averaged 18mph, but I was kinda expecting that.

didn't snag a PR, but I got a course record. I guess that's something. Legs felt like cement through mile 4, and I fought off cramping from 10 on. Wasn't the best outing, but I am at least grateful I didn't run it slower than last year.

Last year time: 1:59:19
This year's time: 1:57:55

Sure it's only 1:24 faster than last year, but faster is faster.

thanks guys. all I know is that from now on I need to make strength training and weight loss equally as important as running. since i started running in July of '08 I have only been focused on running - not even cross training.

I have to take the plan that Lewis gave me seriously if I think I'll improve on the barely sub-2 times.

3.5 miles at lunch, no watch though. Hammies feel pretty strained after yesterday's run. Almost had them collapse and cramp up coming down into the chute.

might take two days off from running to let them rest up.

Had a week off from running due to knee hurting a bit, but all seems well now and gonna try to get back at it tomorrow with 5 miles.

Had two cyclocross races this weekend which were basically miserable. Saturday I drop my chain during the second lap, fall behind, never catch up, crash going over a log on the next to last lap, but finish and not in last place. Sunday I drop my chain going down some horribly bumpy taintbuster of a hill and knock my chainwatcher out of whack (which evidently wasn't doing its job) and then go down when I roll my front tire taking a corner fast on the third lap while playing catch up.

Since I suck and the risk of me hurting myself seems pretty high, I think cyclocross is done for the year - I don't want to knock myself out of the half-marathon in Memphis in a few weeks because I crash my bike trying not to come in last. I'm going to pick up a new bike or frame during the off-season though and give it a go again in the fall. Its a ton of fun, I just need to put some more effort in to practicing my off-road handling skills.

5 mile run this morning. Made it a point to hold back a little bit and focus on what a steady moderate pace feels like so I can find the zone I want to be in for my half. 45 minutes even. Really didn't feel all that great when I started, but after about 3 miles I felt like I could have gone all day.
