He takes some wicked pics, the one on the front page of his site is sick. Such a nice shot of a steelhead in action. I think I need a new body and some wider glass to take pics like that, lol.

Yea there is a lot of shitty post and I hate the way he generally places the ring light. The way it makes that unmistakable shadow just doesn't work for me, IMO it looks better to have some fill to alleviate those but what do I know.

I think he has his camera set to "vivid" and the sharpening set to high, and so doesn't do any post, BUT the shots themselves...

One of my favorite photographers is Dieter Appelt.

A lot of his shots are self portraits.

I bought a book about him about 15 years ago and have never seen it in print since.
Found a picture of it on ebay.

Here are some of his images. Warning, there may be man bits.

If anyone remembers Nine Inch Nail's video for Closer, you may recognize Appelt's work. He didn't have anything to do with the video, but it was inspired by his work decades before (Appelt was born in 1935).

There isn't much to it, honestly. You need plenty of light, clear water, and a great waterproof case (depending on what type of camera you're using). And good timing. I bet a lot of the blue was brought back in PP and then contrast was added since the water is probably somewhat murky.
