I just wipe mine weekly with a damp cloth to keep it clean... but I know there are areas I'm missing. I'm afraid to get crazy in the engine bay, because I'm not sure what to cover up in there (BMW inline 6). I don't see anything except the computer that I would wrap up, but I'm hesitant. I really would like to soak it all down and scrub it, though.

I know what you mean. This guy that I used to hang around with once put a towel over his battery and then pressure washed his engine. It turned out ok, but i would never do that.

I use Simple Green and a garden hose. Just be sure to cover up your air filter if it is exposed. For extra shine you can follow up with ArmorAll Tire foam.

^^ what he said...

use some foil or garbage bags to cover your distributor, intake filter (if youre using a short stack), and battery.

use simple green automotive... lightly spray where its dirty. use a normal paint brush kinda like what daniel-son used in karate kid, and brush around the engine bay. after youre done, shower it with a hose at medium pressure.

after youre done, drive around a highway for about 5 minutes, and it should be clean and dry.

make it look better with a rag with armor all sprayed on it.

I sprayed the CRC all over the engine bay, scrubbed everything, and then rinsed with a regular hose with a light setting. Didn't really cover anything, and nothing got messed up.

I might have to give it a go. My Dinan intake runs down behind the bumper, so I can't even see the filter from the engine bay. It should be okay, since it always gets wet when I wash the car (it's only a few inches behind the brake duct opening, you can see the filter from the front of the car). You don't cover your ECU, battery terminal, etc?

Battery terminal and ECU have their own plastic covers, so they were fine. I just usually do it once a year (spring, after dirty winters) and then keep up with the wipe downs in between washes.

quoted to make sure everyone knows just how viciously awesome this stuff is. I also really dig the engine detailer...but keep a ton of rags handy and wash your hands before you close the hood or touch any external painted surface
