After class today I went down to Harbor Freight to browse (read: I was bored)
And saw this on sale.

Here are the specs:
Aluminum die cast handle for extra rigidty
High impact PVC housing
All ball bearing construction for smooth operation
Versatile 300-3000 RPM range for polishing and sanding
Spindle lock for easy pad changes
Universal 5/8''-11TPI spindle
Comes with 7'' hook and loop backing pad, foam pad, 60 and 240 grit sanding discs, terry towel, polishing bonnet
120V motor, 60 Hz, 9.8 amps

I figured for 30 bucks it's worth a shot. It has almost the same specs as the Makita... Now I just have to get some time so I can try it out on my hooptie. \:\)

The only thing it doesn't have is a graph showing what the rpms are. All the manual says is not to go over 4 on the dial for polishing.

Here's the link if anyone is interested. Rotary Buffer

Ehhhhh, Id be weary. Have you ever even used a PC 7424? If you have no experience using a machine, Id be VERY careful with a Rotary, they can burn through the clear coat VERY quickly. Just...don't be an idiot.

Yeah, I was posting in the PC thread about it. I've used it a few times so far. I'm going to start out using it on a hooptie surburban we're gonna give away.
It's not like I'm gonna squirt some Megs Diamond Cut on a aggressive wool pad and turn the buffer on to max anyway. lol metal

I bought a cheap buffer also for home use. Cant compare it to the Makita I used at work. Makita operate so much smoother and it doesnt feel like its loosing power when your actually buffing with it. But for $30 its works perfect for my own a few times a year.

bah, I bought a makita and just went slowly with it when learning. I also learned on my own car which is my pride and joy. Two things to look out for:
1. You hold it in the same place too long, it will get too hot and burn the paint.
2. If you use a really aggressive type of a pad or product you will wear away all the clear coat within time. I learned much more clear coat exists then you think though.

So just keep moving it around and don't use a harsh cutting product when learning. I polished my old civic countless times and have never experienced any kind of problems. Rotary is faster, easier and more effective then any random orbital. I hate swirl marks and have always been able to easily get rid of them.
